Authorities Detain 6 Vietnamese In Connection With Kidnapping Crimes

SIHANOUKVILLE: Authorities in Sihanoukville have arrested six Vietnamese suspects, including one woman, in connection with cases of kidnapping, detention, torture, extortion and illegal possession of firearms.

Preah Sihanouk Provincial Commissioner, Chuon Narin, has said that the six suspects were arrested at 10:30 PM on 30 January 2022, after driving past a police checkpoint in Prey Nup district trying to escape. The police chased the suspects and were able to intercept them.

During the inspection, the police found 2 gas guns, 11 pairs of handcuffs, 2 electric batons and 3 electric flashlights.

After their arrest, the suspects confessed to kidnapping three Vietnamese women in Phnom Penh for more than US $35,000 on 14 January 2022, before fleeing to Sihanoukville.
